What we collect, and what we never do with it.
National Writers collects as little as it can. This page explains what is saved when you sign the Writer's Pledge, join the newsletter, or sign up for Press Pass updates, who can see it, and how to have it removed.
When you sign the Writer's Pledge
We save your name, email address, what you write and your location if you provide them, whether you chose to be listed publicly, the date you signed, and the country your connection appears to come from. We use this to record your signature, avoid duplicates, and reach you if there is a question about it.
Your name, and what you write if you gave it, appear publicly only if you checked the box asking to be listed. Your email address is never published.
When you join the newsletter
We save your email address, the page where you signed up, the date, and the country your connection appears to come from. We use it only to send the National Writers newsletter.
When you sign up for Press Pass updates
We save your name, email address, the kind of work you do, and your location, recent-work link, and question if you provide them, along with the date and the country your connection appears to come from. We use this only to email you about the Press Pass and to understand who needs one. Signing up is not an application.
What we never do
We do not sell, rent, or share email addresses or signatures with anyone. We do not use them for advertising. We do not add pledge signers to the newsletter unless they sign up for it separately.
Who can see it
Signatures, newsletter signups, and Press Pass signups are stored privately with Vercel, the company that hosts this site. They are not publicly accessible and can be read only by National Writers.
Visitor statistics
The site uses TraceMyIP to count visits. Like most visitor-statistics services, it records information your browser sends, such as your IP address, the pages you view, and the site that referred you. We use it to understand which pages are useful.
The tools on this site
The rate calculator, pitch checklist, and draft analyzer run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is uploaded or saved.
Changing or removing your information
To change how you are listed, remove your pledge signature, leave the newsletter, or come off the Press Pass list, email hello@nationalwriters.org. You can also update your pledge details by signing again with the same email address.
